I expect this was her mother’s first litter. Cats are terrible for coming over here for breakfast and leaving their kittens behind. My eyes had not yet adjusted to the morning and I saw a black spot on the porch floor. When I tried to pick it up, it was a kitten. Her eyes were not yet open. I left her where she was in hopes her mother would take her back and eventually she did.
The next day I heard mewing outside and found this baby back again. I waited for quite awhile, but mother didn’t return. I’m glad I got her when I did because the mother didn’t come back for several days. I took her to the vet and got a bottle and some kitten formula and fed her for many weeks. Since she needed to be fed so often, I started toting her around in a small box. When I was busy, my son had to take her to work with him to feed her.
Finally, one evening when I was picking some things up at Walgreens, the cashier started ooowing and awwing over the kitten and said she would like to have her.
It turned out that her friend was the one to take her. I’m sure she has a very happy home.
