Josephine

Smoky Ole Joe!  She is a very small Russian Blue who is also a true Manx!

Someone a few streets over brought her to me and asked me to care for her.  Her mother and sister had both been killed by hawks and he was afraid she would suffer the same fate.  They brought her in a plastic box with about 1/2 inch of bleach in the bottom.  I took her inside and washed her little paws and butt.  The bleach must have really burned.

At the time, we had a young chicken with no mother and I already had her in the bathroom, so I put Josie in for company until I could get her to the vet to determine if she had anything catchy.  The two of them slept together in a cat carrier for several weeks.

Because she is a true Manx, she was not able to poop.  The vet gave her a laxative and warned me she may need it for the rest of her life.  As it turned out, she was fine by the time she was six months old.  I still watch her but she hasn’t needed it again.

I don’t know if it’s her breed, personality, fear or whatever but she will not use a litter box to pee.  Instead she finds a small container, usually about 3-4 inches and pees in there.  Now I keep a small dish for her and she goes there as long as I empty it and wash it out each time she uses it.
